When you prepare to do your Vet Interview just
remember your mission. I always suggest
that you make a courtesy visit to get the layout. Check to
make sure you have good lighting,
and your Veteran is not sick or not feeling well. Make an
appointment to come back and do
the Video Interview. Some things to keep in mind before the
interview.
1. Make sure
your cell phone is turned off. Sometimes the RF signal from your
cell
phone will be picked up on the
video recorder sound system.
2. Make sure the Vet's phones are turned
off also.
3. If you can, place a door knob hangar or
note on the front door telling folks "PLEASE
DO NOT DISTURB -
VIDEO INTERVIEW IS IN SESSION".
4. If the Vet has a pet, make sure the pet
is secured somewhere else so your video
recorder will not
pick up the sound. It is very distracting!!
5. Try to have a helper with you or a
relative of the Vet to assist in unforeseen things.
6. Allow at least two (2) hours to do the
interview. Make sure your recorder can record
at least two (2)
hours.
7. Have some tissues on hand. You
will need them!!
8. Try to have some questions written down
and always stay ahead of the Vet by having
a question to ask.
NO DEAD AIR!! I always start off the interview by stating the date,
name of the Vet and
then where the Vet was born... and so on. It helps the Vet get into the
mood a lot easier
and it's always interesting to hear how THE GREATEST GENERATION
was raised.
9. Stop the interview for a while if your
Vet becomes too upset. Take a break. Remember
some of these
guys/gals went through some terrifying and dangerous trials. Some
were in hand to
hand combat or watched there buddies killed right in front of their
eyes!
10. ALWAYS show respect.... because you are in the
presence of an American HERO!!!!!
11. Always have good lighting. Have the light coming
from behind you and shining on the Vet.
12. Have about six (6) feet between you and your Vet
for good sound.
13. After you have done
your VET INTERVIEW, burn the video to DVD-R. Then request a
mailing address to
send the DVD-R for processing.
